Introduction

Named after two villages of Overa &Aru located at the southern & north-eastern boundaries of the sanctuary. The Overa-Aru Wildlife Sanctuary, near to Pahalgam town in district Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir, is spread across an area of about 511 sq. km., with mountains peaking up to 5,400 m. The sanctuary is home to rare and endangered species endemic to the Himalaya such as the hangul, musk deer, brown bear and snow leopard.Overa-Aru wildlife sanctuary is significant in terms of biodiversity distribution as it is connected to the south eastern portion of  Dachigam National Park
